What is an OPK?

While now generally just called ovulation tests, OPK is how they were originally referred to; It stands for Ovulation Predictor Kit.

How does an Ovulation Test Work?

The most common ovulation test is qualitative, meaning that it displays either a positive or negative via a test line which is compared against a control line.

When an ovulation test is positive, it has detected a surge in Luteinizing Hormone (LH Surge). LH stimulates the egg to be released from the follicle.

When your ovulation test is positive, it is predicting that ovulation will occur within 24 to 48 hours, thereby giving you advance notice of the most fertile days in your cycle!
