Ovulation Tests, also called Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs), detect a surge in the Luteinizing Hormone (LH). When the test is positive, ovulation will likely occur between the next 24 to 48 hours.

Tips for Using Ovulation Tests

Most qualitative ovulation tests work the same way, using a test strip that is then evaluated for positive or negative based on the control line versus the test line. There may be subtle differences - for instance, in when to read the test - so always consult the instruction sheet that accompanied your tests. Below are some basic tips shared across most OPKs

Test between 10am and 8pm since LH is more concentrated in the afternoon.
Test at around the same time daily.
To avoid diluting LH, thereby missing your cycle's surge, limit fluids approximately 2 hours before testing.
Dip test in urine sample for the time specified by the test - usually 5 to 10 seconds.
Dip up to the test's MAX line, but not beyond that.
Read and photo your test only within the time limit indicated by the test: some tests indicate 3 minutes, others between 5 to 10 minutes, etc. The results are only valid if read read within the time frame.
